TAYLOR AT A
GLANCE.
Taylor Nicole Witherspoon is a multidimensional operatic soprano and vocalist based in Louisiana. She has enjoyed performing with organizations including Louisiana Philharmonic Orchestra, Verismo Opera, Opera Creole, and New Orleans Opera. Recent highlights include Agnès Sorel/The Maid of Orleans and a principal nun in Dialogues des Carmélites. She earned her Bachelor's degree in Vocal Performance at the University of Louisiana at Monroe and her Master's at Loyola University in New Orleans. While in school, Taylor performed in university productions across a wide range of genres; titles include West Side Story, Pirates of Penzance, Rent, Sweeney Todd: The Demon Barber of Fleet Street, The Beggars Opera, Phantom of the Opera, and Candide. Studying abroad with both Music in the Marche (Italy) and International Performing Arts Institute (Germany), Taylor performed scenes from Die Fledermaus, The Merry Widow (Hanna), Three Penny Opera, Dear Evan Hansen, Suor Angelica (title role), and L'incoronazione di Poppea (title role).
From birth, Taylor suffered from grand mal seizures. This debilitating condition caused her many years of struggling with her education and very low self-esteem, culminating in her junior year when she went into heart failure. Taylor was given a pacemaker, which saved her life. The struggles she faced during this time affected her confidence and her mental health, and she worked hard to regain both through her singing. When she had the privilege of performing Carlotta in Phantom of the Opera, her passion and confidence grew, and she was proud to present her senior recital the following fall. She finished her undergraduate degree in December 2019. Her unconventional journey through school was difficult, but she developed the determination, passion, and persistence to carry on with a life in music.
Taylor's goals are to perform with a major opera company and to travel to many countries performing with opera companies. She also aspires to become a more diverse artist across various musical genres, including jazz, gospel, spiritual, and R&B. She works hard to cultivate a platform that advocates positivity, self-love, and individuality with performing. Taylor always believes in trying new things even in music. Her view of life: “Never be scared to be different from others; Your uniqueness is what makes you extraordinary.”
